Born and grew up in Dublin, Ireland.

Lived in New York City for 16 years, where she studied at the International Centre for Photography and the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Moved to Sydney and continued her photography studies at point light.

Anne Lynam has a quirky way of viewing the world, a vision which has been much in evidence in point light group shows such as emergence and arrival. Enigma, her portfolio for the arrival 2002 exhibition, especially delighted and intrigued.

New York state of mind, Lynam's first solo exhibition, was held at point light gallery in June/July 2003. This is a literally marvellous collection of photographs taken with humour and wonder and an appreciation for the truly bizarre that can only happen in New York.

Critical reviews

"Outstanding images in the show are Anne Lynam's Venetian Glass, a beautifully observed still life which simultaneously pays homage to Andre Kertesz and Piet Mondrian..."

- From a review of emergence 5 by Robert McFarlane, SMH Sept 2001

"Point Light Gallery has built an enviable reputation for teaching and promoting fine black-and-white photography, especially of the landscape. However, Anne Lynam's urban images from the US display a freer visual grammar than usual for this classically orientated gallery. Lynam's quirky observations of reflected cityscapes (she seems particularly fond of observing New York through reflections in puddles) might be seen as visual riffs on the variable personality of Manhattan.

Lynam is also fond of incorporating commercial street signs into her pictures, with one image inviting passing NY citizens to 'Repaint' not 'Repent'. However, this device is repetitive and limiting, in my view. Where Lynam simply uses her powers of observation, such as in Glory NYU, her work moves a step closer to universality. This image of the US flag hanging beneath several floors of uniformly lit windows was elegant in its economy."
